About MacMillan Development

HomeAbout MacMillan Development

Community driven. Personally invested.

After moving to Fort Collins in 1976, Stuart put his graduate work in city planning to use with a local commercial construction and development company.  He joined the Everitt Companies in 1986 where he was able to combine his experience in development and construction with his knowledge in planning and design. In 2015, Stuart founded MacMillan Development, LLC, a real estate development services company.

Stu was President and CEO of Everitt-MacMillan Development and managed all phases of a commercial development company that developed over 50 projects in Northern Colorado. Stu’s experience allowed him to guide his clients through site selection, project budgeting, entitlements/city approvals, financing, team selection, construction, and project completion. His attention to organization and ability to present his clients with multiple alternatives have helped him successfully manage projects including The Elizabeth Hotel, Group Publishing, LSI Logic, Skyline Center for Health, Hewlett Packard, three Fort Collins Marriott Hotels, Confluence, and the Mitchell Block, to name a few.

From 2011 to 2015, Stu was the Director of Real Estate for Bohemian Companies and their real estate assets and new developments, including the Elizabeth Hotel in downtown Fort Collins, Colorado.

In the community, Stu has served as the Chairman of the Board for the Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Board for the Northern Colorado Economic Development Corporation, President of the Fort Collins Country Club, served on the Lincoln Center Board, Board Chair for Larimer County Partners, and was Campaign Chair for United Way.  Stuart was also on the Board of Directors for the Colorado State University Research Foundation. He is currently on the Board of The Fort Collins Country Club.

Stu is married to Sue MacMillan, a fitness trainer at Genesis.  Stu and Sue have three children and one granddaughter and one grandson.  Jenna owns a coffee shop in Naples, Florida, and lives with granddaughter Brooklyn. Nevin was a mountain guide on Mount Rainier but now lives in Boulder, and Ayla and her husband Ben are parents to grandson Emmitt and live and work in Fort Collins.

Stu and Sue are passionate about the outdoors.  Both are happiest when skiing, golfing, camping, or running.
